Creating Child Domain Controller
We have deployed a domain named google.com, now we are going to deploy a child domain yahoo.google.com. for this, we are going to use “Linux (PC Name)” where we have installed Windows Server 2016 operating system. Child Domain Controller.
On Linux open Server Manager and double click on Add roles and features, during the installation process select Active Directory Domain Service on server role and complete the installation process.
Once the AD DS role is installed, in Server Manager, click on the notification icon and click on Promote this server to a domain controller.
In deployment Configuration wizard, select the deployment operation as Add a new domain to an existing forest and in the select domain type, choose child domain and in the parent domain name, select the parent domain for your Active Directory environment, in our case google.com and in New domain name, enter the child domain controller name in our case yahoo, now supply the credential to perform this as google\Administrator and then click on next,
In Domain Controller Options, type the Directory Service Restore Mode (DSRM) password and click on next,
In the DNS option, click on next,
In the Additional option, click on next.
In Path, verify the location of the AD DS database and click on next.
In the Review option, review the selection and click on next.
In prerequisites, after all, the prerequisite check passed successfully, click on install to begin the installation.
Wait for the process to complete.
Once the installation process is complete, it will display a warning you’re about to sign out and a few seconds the system will restart.
Now on the login screen, select other users and type in the child domain\ administrator and type in the password, and press enter.
Once the child domain is created, you can manage the object from the Active Directory Users and Computers.
